It is believed that this temple was built by a group of yogis in honor of Sati Devi, on their journey to Lord Pashupatinath in Kathmandu. Every year this temple attracts a large number of devotees from around the country and also from the border cities of India. Especially in the time of Dashain festival, which is one of the biggest festivals celebrated in the country, a huge crowd of people gather to pray to the goddess and provide their offerings. Shivaratri, Teej and Magh Sukla Purnima are some other festivals when the temple receives a lot of devotees.
